How to Brand Your Business

What do you want to stand for?

The first thing you have to think about when branding your business is your mission statement. What do you want to accomplish? What kind of atmosphere do you want to create?

When I was thinking about my brand, Natasha Lane Design Co., I knew that I wanted something professional and chic. I wanted an atmosphere that was business casual, as in I want to be approachable, but yet professional.

The mission for Natasha Lane Design Co. is to help small businesses and entrepreneurs envision their aspirations to deliver their services to their dream clients.

Create a persona

In my FEWD (Front End Web Development) class, when I was learning about the pre-process of creating a website, I learned to create personas of the customers who would access the website.

This was a really fun idea. I created 3 different personas who fit the project’s  ideal customers. We looked up pictures online, gave them names, ideal jobs, hobbies, and so on.

I like to use this for branding. Not only do I do this to imagine the ideal audience, but I do it for the actual brand.

If Natasha Lane was a person, what would she like? What is her style? Would she do this? This mindset helped me decide on the next steps below because it helped me understand what type of person Natasha Lane was.

Create the Logo

After having an idea of your style, the colors that you might like, and your target audience, you can start designing your company logo.

Choose your colors

After deciding your mission statement, what type of atmosphere do you want your business to have? What type of style? What might fit your logo? Choose colors that will match that atmosphere and style.

Because I knew Natasha Lane, I knew what colors she would like. Not only that, but I tried to imagine what type of small businesses would want her design services. I wanted colors that would please both my brand and my clients.
