HOW TO GET MORE CONFIDENT ON VIDEO

Do you feel awkward on camera? Keep watching to find out tips on how to get more confident on video.

HOW TO GET MORE CONFIDENT ON VIDEO

A few weeks ago, we went over how to get confident creating videos. This week, I’m going to show you how to get more confident on video by creating a routine.

Since I already covered planning and practicing, I’m going to disregard that in this video. Even if you plan and practice, being on camera is nerve-wracking.

Dress how you want to look and feel

The first thing we’re going to talk about is appearance. I want you to dress how you want to look and feel.

What does that mean?

I want you to consider 2 things.

01. I want you to be comfortable and confident.

Wear clothes that make you feel like you own the world. We all have a favorite outfit that makes us feel more confident like we can take on anything. That’s what you should be wearing.

Wear clothes that make you feel like you own the world.

Don’t wear clothes that make you feel ugly. Ladies, you know what I’m talking about. We all have moods where we’re like ‘I don’t care anymore’ and we pull out the sweats and a t-shirt 3x our size. That happens when we abandon ourselves for work, family, or feelings. Those are the clothes we wear to battle and get dirty, but those are not the clothes that we wear to rule the world.

Same thing for hair and makeup.

I don’t usually wear my hair down because I somehow feel less confident. I feel more confident with my hair pulled back like this. Same thing for makeup. I’m not used to wearing a lot of makeup. In fact, it was so little that it barely showed on camera, so I had to and will keep updating my makeup routine until I find something that fits.

02. Try to stay on brand

The second thing I want you to consider is your brand. Does your overall look fit your brand?

This is an easy fix. You just have to stick to your brand colors and emulate the style of your brand. If you don’t know what that is, then the perfect middle is business casual.

Another solution is Pinterest. If you don’t know anything about style, then create a secret Pinterest board and start pinning outfits that you think fit your brand. Once you find out what you like, you can shop for that style and find what makes you feel confident and comfortable.

Create a routine that makes you feel like you’re the best

Next, create a routine that makes you feel like you’re the best! I want you to think about a few things before you create your routine.

01. What’re some of your weak points when it comes to being on camera?

02. What pumps you up when you’re feeling down?

03. What do you want to accomplish with this?

04. What’s the worst that can happen and how can you prepare for that?

01. What’re some of your weak points when it comes to being on camera?

Let’s start with your weak points. I’ll give you an example of mine. I have a monotone voice, I was stiff on camera, and I barely moved my mouth.

I still haven’t 100% solved all these problems, but I’ve improved a lot with these weaknesses. That’s because I had a routine to help with this.

I went online and researched voice exercises and body exercises that helped with my voice and stiffness. When I first started creating videos, I made these exercises as part of my routine. As for now, I don’t do them anymore, but I should start back.

02. What pumps you up when you’re feeling down?

Now think about the thing that pumps you up when you’re feeling down. For me, that thing is music and dancing. No matter how depressed I am, if I play a fun pop song, I’ll start singing and dancing along.

03. What do you want to accomplish with this?

Think about all the goals you have and why you started creating videos. Write down everything you want to accomplish with creating videos. That could be building brand awareness, building a community, getting in front of your audience, and so on. Really think about the end goal.

04. What’s the worst that can happen and how can you prepare for that?

Now think about what’s the worst that can happen. What are your biggest fears? I like to write down everything that’s holding me back. Then once I finish, I go back and think of a solution for it. When I do this, I realize that the worst isn’t really that bad.

Once you answer all these questions, you can officially create your routine to get more confident on video. You can do this routine every time before you start officially filming.

Here’s my routine. I like to eat ramyun with lots of kimchi before I film. The reason I like to eat ramyun and kimchi is because I feel refreshed after eating something spicy. My throat is more clear afterward so my voice sounds better.

I like to psych myself out by listening to BlackPink and dancing around. If I’m not doing that, I like to play Just Dance on my Nintendo Wii. I find this helps with stiffness and I feel energized.

Before this set routine, I would eat ramyun and do vocal exercises and some stretches. Just remember, your routine depends on which weaknesses you want to conquer.

Start filming

Once you have your routine in place, try it out and start filming. You’ll notice a difference right away. Filming will start to feel fun.

Make sure you lessen your film time by being prepared and filming in sections. The longer your filming is, the more draining it gets when you’re not used to it.

I don’t have time for this, just tell me how to get more confident on video

To get more confident on video, you have to wear the right armor, create a routine to get you in the zone and be prepared for filming.
