Can't afford a logo? Tempory ideas until you can get one

I saw a question about how to get a free logo. A lot of people (non-graphic designers) answered use Canva or go to Fiverr.

I don’t believe in cheap logos

I am not a big fan of Fiverr. They say for $5 you can get a logo. I’m here to tell you that you get what you pay for. A logo is something that might be associated with your company forever. Not only that, if it’s sub par, it reflects on your business. I know I would never buy from or even stay on a website that looks like it’s poor quality. It makes the business and site look unprofessional, cheap, and inexperienced.

Type it out for now

If you have a business or blog that you want to launch, type out your business name for now. Save your $5, this is free.

Fonts

There are plenty of free, beautiful fonts to choose from. In fact, if you have the $5 invest it in a beautiful font.  Here are a list of sites you can find fonts, free and on the cheap.

SEO

The other reason I suggest using a font is because of SEO. If you use an h1 tag for your business name, it’s good for SEO. If you don’t want to use an h1 tag, just know that h1 will rank highest about the header tags. This means that h1 is the highest, and h6 is the lowest. If you don’t like the size of the h1 tag, then adjust the style using CSS.

Note: If you don’t know what h1-h6 tags or want to learn basic HTML read this post.

Should I use Canva?

This question was a big deal for graphic designers trying to answer this question. All of them said no. Even I said no, and suggested that the person uses a font instead.

Reasons for saying no

My biggest reason for saying no is because a logo is supposed to be scalable. No matter how big or small the logo is, it has to be visible. So whether it’s on a clothing tag, business card, or billboard, it has to be legible. What’s the point of having a logo if people can’t see it?

The next reason why I’m opposed to it is that Canva is a free program that can be used by anyone. This means that other people could have the same logo design as you. Logos were meant to be original. When I think of a logo, I think of it as the signature of the brand. When your customers see your logo, they should recognize who you are. They can’t do that if your logo is just a copy of another business’ logo.

Reasons for saying yes

I know what it’s like not to be able to afford what I want. Because of this, I say go ahead. I’m a flexible person who likes a challenge.

If you’re going to use Canva, make sure you watch out for the dimensions of your image. You’re going to put this on your website, so make sure it looks good on a desktop computer, laptop computer, tablet, and mobile phones. If you don’t care that your website is responsive, then make sure it looks good on the device you want it to be viewed on.
