Starting to HATE your business? How to brand a business you love

Are you starting to hate your business? This seems like a weird question, right? Why would you hate your business? But, it can happen. I’ve actually been there. There were so many times I wanted to quit what I was doing, but I never did. I just switched gears and started honing in on my goals and making little changes to my business. If you’re starting to hate your business, keep watching to find out how to brand a business you love. We’re going to go over branding basics so you can rebrand your business. These branding tips will help you build a brand that aligns with your goals and attracts your audience.

Starting to HATE your business? How to brand a business you love

01. Do you know your how, what, who, where, and why?

If you haven’t discovered your how, what, who, where, and why, then you need to start here. Before we get started, I want you to ask yourself why you hate your business. List it all down. Maybe you don’t like the work you do, who you help, or how your brand looks or feels. Just list down anything you can think of.

Next, ask yourself why you started doing what you’re doing. I started Natasha Lane Design Co because I wanted to help female entrepreneurs create their dream businesses. It all started with a school project. I was researching information on women and technology and was shocked by what I found out. I felt like I had to do more as a woman, and this is what I came up with.

What are your goals for your business?

Think about your goals. Did you start off wanting to help someone? Maybe you wanted to make it rich. Or did you have a message you wanted to spread to the world or want to leave a legacy? What are your goals for creating your business? It can be anything you wish. Even if it’s for your own vanity, as long as it makes you happy. Plus, no one has to know.

Who do you want to help?

This is a big question. Who do you want to help? This answer is very important for your brand. How will you brand a business you love if you don’t even know who you want to help. Knowing who you want to help will give you a direction on how you package your services, what kind of content you want to create, and where to show up online.

My brand has evolved because of the people I want to help. At first, I wanted to help female entrepreneurs, but then it evolved into helping service-based female entrepreneurs, and now it’s narrowed down to service-based entrepreneurs who are content creators.

Just because I have a specific audience, doesn’t mean I can’t help anyone else. If a product-based entrepreneur enjoys my content, finds it helpful, and wants my services, I can help them. Having a specific audience helps me decide what kind of content to create.

Why do you do what you do?

When you’re thinking about why you do what you do, you can incorporate your goals, but you might think about something bigger like having a cause. You could have a charity you’re interested in helping. Your personal life could be your driving force. You might do this so you can spend more time with your family and friends. Or you love creating meaningful content for your audience. This is your passion!

Thinking about this helps you with your business model and helps you decide how you’re going to format your business. If you want to spend more time with your family and friends, you might want to limit your business hours so it’ll help you decide what type of work you do and how you market your brand.

02. How do I get started branding a business I love?

Now it’s time for a makeover. You’re going to refresh your brand. I know I talked about a lot above, but if you want to brand a business you love, then you need to know your how, what, who, where, and why. Once you have this down, you can officially start rebranding your business.

Rebranding isn’t hard, you just have to incorporate your how, what, who, where, and why into your business. You can start revamping your services, your messaging, your content ideas, your images, and your website.

Let’s use an etiquette coach as an example. If she decided she wanted to help female leaders navigate the corporate world with manners, then she would have to update her content to include things like Table manners for bosses, How to walk like a boss, or How to greet like a boss

She would also update her services and create packages geared to what female leaders or potential female leaders would need help with when navigating the corporate world.

03. How do I add a little personality to my brand?

After your rebrand, start adding a little personality to your brand. As a content creator, coach, entrepreneur, or small business you have the advantage of creating a personal brand.

For those of you who are worried about privacy, you don’t have to show all aspects of your life. You can list the things you’re willing to show and do and not willing to show or do.

I like to stay away from topics of religion and politics. I don’t like negative energy or arguing with people. And those 2 topics are polarizing. Also, because I don’t like negative energy, you won’t really see me talking bad about anyone or calling them out. I also draw the line at showing my family. I like to have privacy.

On the other hand, I do want to show my personality. I’ve had comments and emails from people resonating with my laziness. Because I watch kdramas and read light novels, I made a few friends in my DMs who also share those hobbies. It’s fun meeting like-minded individuals. I have found that showing my personality, using my voice, and just being myself helps add a little fun to my business.

04. Does my image matter?

Image is everything. Now that you have a new brand and you’re incorporating that into your business along with your personality, it’s time to update your image. It’s like getting a makeover. You have to show it off to everyone.

Take new photos that match your brand. That could be your brand images (stock photos, photos for your services, Instagram photos, social media covers, thumbnails, blog post images, and so on) and images of yourself. Brand photos are a great way to set the tone for your business. You can see I’ve updated my photos on my website and Instagram and they have a new feel. You can check out how my brand has evolved from my first Instagram post until my current posts.

05. What’s the most important part of branding?

Your audience is KING. So even though you need a rebrand, you still need to think about everything from your audience’s perspective.

Did you update your target audience or will you have the same target audience? If you made changes, most likely you’ll have to tweak your services to align with their needs and think of content ideas your audience is interested in. I talked about this when I mentioned the etiquette coach earlier.

Make sure your brand aligns with your dream audience.

Summary of Starting to HATE your business? How to brand a business you love

As you can see, hating your business could have nothing to do with your services and everything to do with your goals and audience. Sometimes this can change your services, but most of the time, the service is the same, but the message is different. For example, I’m still helping people create brands, websites, and videos, but my message and who I serve are different.

So that’s it, if you want to learn how to brand a business you love then think about your how, what, who, where, and why, start rebranding based on your new goals, add your personality to your brand, update your images so you’ll reflect your new brand, and remember your audience is KING.
