Building your brand as a content creator

Ready to build a profitable business? In this video, I’ll go over how to build your brand as a content creator, the importance of personal branding, and how to get started researching your brand style. Building your brand as a content creator sucks. Well, doing it as a business sucks too. I can tell you that as both a content creator and a business. But it’s worth it.

When I didn’t have a detailed plan, it was really hard to think about what type of content my audience wanted, how I could position myself in my niche, and what I wanted to do in the long run. I wasted a lot of time and energy creating useless things and not being confident in what I did.

Now, after having a detailed plan and writing out all the things I wanted to do in the next 5-10 years, finding out who I was passionate about helping, and knowing how I wanted to help my people, creating content and marketing my services became a lot easier.

So, what’s the secret to building a profitable business as a content creator? Keep reading to find out.

Building your brand as a content creator (the secret to building a profitable business)

01. How do I build a profitable business?

If you want to build a profitable business, you have to have a strong brand foundation. I’ve talked about this a lot in other videos, but you must know your goals for your business and yourself. You have to know why you’re doing what you’re doing, where you aspire to be in the future, and how you’re going to do it.

Next, you must know who you want to help. Knowing your audience will help you narrow down your goals, create better content, and create better services and products.

You also need to know who your competitors are. I talked about the importance of competitors in a previous video. That video was called DIY branding your business? See why you’re wasting your time, money, and energy!. In that video, I talked about why it’s important to know who your competitors are. If you don’t have time time to watch that video, just know that knowing your competitors will help you find your strengths and utilize them to stand out and position yourself in your niche.

Knowing yourself and your business, your audience, and your competitors are just a few of the things you need to consider when starting your business and creating your brand. 02. How do I get started creating a personal brand?

After you know yourself, your audience, and your competitors, you also want to start thinking about your personal brand. Having a personal brand is important when you’re a small business and entrepreneur. Especially if you’re a content creator or a coach.

What’s the difference between Walmart and your local farmer’s market? The difference is people. Walmart is a big corporation but your local farmer’s market is full of people you know from your community. Most people are proud of shopping at a farmer’s market because they know they’re helping real people (they know if they see them regularly) from their own community.

The same thing applies to content creators and coaches. We’re creating content and making 1-on-1 connections with real people with our content and our services.

I remember I had to chop off all my hair years ago. At that time, I started researching how to grow my hair faster. That’s when I discovered Andrea’s Choice on YouTube. I fell in love with her videos and would buy all the hair products she recommended. I was obsessed. She doesn’t make videos anymore, but if I saw her upload a new video, I would still watch it to see what she was up to.

If you’re new to personal branding, then start by creating videos. Videos are a great way to showcase your personality and how knowledgeable you are about what you do. With video, your audience will be able to see you, hear you, and get to know you and your business. If you need help creating videos, here’s a playlist I created to help. If you need help building a personal brand on camera, then check out Branding on YouTube (How to create videos for your brand even though you’re shy on camera).

03. How do I get started researching my brand style?

Once you’ve built a solid brand foundation, you can start thinking about your brand style. Just so you know, there’s a lot of work that goes into building your business foundation. If you haven’t done all the work, then sign up for The Ultimate Roadmap to Discover Your Brand Style. The email course will walk you through everything including researching your brand style.

Okay, once you have your brand foundation down, it’s time to research your brand style. I like to create a secret Pinterest board for this. Once you create your board, you can start pinning images you think are related to your brand.

If you’ve followed the roadmap from my email course, theirs a section where I ask you to write down how you want your brand to feel and what tone you want to set for your brand. You can use the words you chose in the Pinterest search engine to find images related to your chosen words. Once you choose enough images, you’ll have an idea of your brand style.

Summary of Building your brand as a content creator (the secret to building a profitable business)

I know all of this sounds like a lot of work, but it’s really important to do all this work because it’ll help you find the direction you want your business to go, help you create content your audience wants to consume, and help you utilize your strengths so you can stand out in your niche.

It’s better to have your brand foundation nailed down and know what to do than to have no idea about what to create and if you’re going in the right direction for your business.
