How to find time to create videos to build your brand (without being overwhelmed)

Are you too busy to create videos for your brand? This was one of the reasons why I didn’t want to create videos for my business. I thought I didn’t have enough time. Well, the truth is it doesn’t have to take a lot of time. In this video, I’m going to show you how to find time to create videos to build your brand without being overwhelmed.

How to find time to create videos to build your brand (without being overwhelmed)

01. Find time

The first thing you need to do to find time to create videos to build your brand (without being overwhelmed) is to find the time. Before you think about creating videos for your business, you have to find time in your busy schedule to create videos.

Do you have 2-3 hours a week you can spare to create videos? I know I didn’t have those 2-3 hours. I ended up replacing blogging for that time. The time I spent creating blog posts ended up being used for the time I spent creating videos. Now I repurposed my YouTube videos into blogs. So if you don’t have the time, if you don’t have 2-3 hours a week, can you substitute something like blogging to create videos? If you found the time, congratulations because you can now create videos.

02. Create a plan

The 2nd thing you need to do to find time to create videos to build your brand (without being overwhelmed) is to create a plan. Before you hit record. you need to create a plan. If you don’t have a plan, you’ll end up being unorganized and you’ll waste time. Time that you could have spent filming and editing your videos.

The whole point of this is to save time. Without a plan, you won’t know what you’re supposed to be doing or what you’re going to talk about. So sit down and start writing out a plan. Write down everything you need to do for creating your video. Maybe you want to brainstorm content ideas, pick a time of day to film, and write down the equipment you need,

Do you need to limit your filming time? Do you want to create weekly short videos? Maybe you don’t have time to create longer videos, so want to create shorter videos weekly or bi-weekly? Or maybe you only have a limited time so you want to create one long video every month. Whatever you can think of that works for you and your time, write it down.

03. Outline a script

The 3rd thing you want to do to find time to create videos to build your brand (without being overwhelmed) is have a script. Before you start filming you should have a script, especially if you want to save time because having a script or an outline will help you know what you’re going to talk about when filming.

If you forget what you’re supposed to talk about, you can pause look at your script, and keep going, It’ll help you keep on point. Having an outline only takes about 5 to 20 minutes to create, depending on how long your video is. If you’re making short videos like an Instagram video or Instagram story, it doesn’t even take me five minutes to outline a video. But if you’re making a 15-minute YouTube video, that will take a little longer. If you need a script template, then you can grab your free copy here.

04. Keep it super simple

The 4th thing you want to do to find time to create videos to build your brand (without being overwhelmed) is to keep it super simple. Don’t overcomplicate the filming process. If you can take a shortcut, just take it. Maybe you don’t want all that fancy equipment because you don’t have the time to set up and take down equipment. I like to film using either a webcam or my phone. Those are the only two things I use.

I do have cameras to film lighting kits, and backdrops but it would take me a long time to set up and take down everything. I don’t want to do that, I just want to make it as simple as possible for me because if I start doing a lot of things then I won’t create these videos.

It used to take me a long time to create videos because I used to make a lot of mistakes when filming, especially in the beginning. After all, I wanted everything to be perfect. But now when I’m filming, I don’t do waste time on mistakes. It takes me less than 20 minutes to film a video now. It used to take me an hour because I would want everything to be perfect and I didn’t want to make mistakes on my video, but now I don’t care as much because I want to save time and keep moving and doing the next thing.

Another thing you’ll notice is now I don’t have sound effects, music, or anything on my videos anymore because it makes the editing process longer. Now, I save a lot of time editing videos by just editing out the bloopers. It takes me about 30 minutes to edit a video now.

For you perfectionists out there, I understand. I also want to create perfect videos. But would you rather have nothing or create information for your audience that helps them? I would rather have content out there to help my audience instead of creating nothing. Just know that you’re just creating a video to help people, you’re not creating a blockbuster film.

05. Batch tasks together

The last thing you want to do to find time to create videos to build your brand (without being overwhelmed) is batch similar tasks together. This is the real secret to saving time creating videos. If you don’t know what batching is, it’s doing similar tasks at once so you save time and become more productive.

I like to have writing days because it’s really hard for me to get into the mindset of writing. But, once I start, I get into the zone. Instead of switching to another task and wasting time trying to switch gears, it’s easier to keep writing. That’s why, I tend to outline scripts, write newsletters, write captions, and write blogs on the same day. It saves me a lot of time. The same goes for filming, brainstorming content, and editing videos.

Summary

That’s it. Those are the 5 ways to find time to create videos to build your brand without being overwhelmed. First, find out how much time you can dedicate to creating videos. Then create a plan, outline a script, keep it super simple, and create batch days.
