Are you on the fence about whether you should be blogging or vlogging for your business? Well, creating content for your business is all the same, right? Wrong! Depending on your goals, there’s a big difference between blogging vs vlogging for your business. If you haven’t figured out by the title of this video, today, I’m going to answer ‘Should I start a YouTube channel?’ and give you 5 reasons why I switched from blogging to making YouTube videos.
When you’re first starting out blogging, you won’t have any traffic especially if you’re starting your business from scratch. I know when I first started my blog, all I heard was crickets. You see all these articles about how you should create content for your business because it’s the easiest way to market and attract your dream clients to you, but just because you build it, doesn’t mean that they will come right away.
Yes, you should be creating content to grow your business, but instead of blogging, you should turn to making YouTube videos. Here are the 5 reasons why I switched from blogging to making YouTube videos.
Should I start a YouTube channel? (5 reasons why I switched from blogging to making YouTube videos)
01. Get visible
So the first reason I switched from creating blogs to Youtube videos is to get visible. When I first started blogging, I didn’t really have an audience. I was starting from scratch. So I decided to make Youtube videos because YouTube is a search engine and not only is it a search engine but it’s also owned by Google. So if you research the right keywords, then you’ll be found in the search results for both YouTube and Google.
Not only that but there are over two billion users on YouTube. They already have a set audience and the audience or I should say the users for Youtube usually search for things they need help with. I mean I’m one of the people who search for content whenever I’m trying to learn how to do something. So I figured somebody else would be searching for what I have to offer.
Creating videos gave me the opportunity to have more traffic to my videos. If you look at my videos, you see that I actually have more engagement on my videos than my blog post. I have more comments in the comment section than I do in my blog post. And that actually happened quickly. I would say after one month of creating videos I was already receiving comments on my Youtube videos and I was also receiving emails from email subscribers.
02. Create more content to help your dream audience
The second reason I switched from blogging to creating Youtube videos was because I wanted to create more content across my social media channels. Creating Youtube videos actually gave me the opportunity to repurpose my content. I was able to create different things from one YouTube video.
My YouTube video will become a blog post. I could use it as part of a video snippet for Instagram, Facebook, and I can repurpose a part of the video to IGTV. I can even create content for my newsletter. So creating content for Youtube actually helped me create more content for my social media channels, my newsletter, and my website.
03. Build your brand
The third reason why I switched from blogging to making YouTube videos was Youtube videos actually helped me build my brand. One of the things I was having problems with was my voice. When I was blogging, it was really hard to use my own voice to blog. But when you’re talking to the camera you’re actually using the words that you would normally use when you’re talking. You use the same tone, humor, and personality.
I can actually showcase more of my personality when I’m creating Youtube videos. Unlike when I’m blogging, blogging was hard because I couldn’t use my voice because I was mostly used to writing papers for school. Whenever I was writing papers it was more formal and professional and that is not how I want my blog to sound.
Another thing is it actually helps you build your brand from scratch. Because incorporating more of your personality into your brand is a good thing. Especially if you’re a small business or solopreneur because you’re able to build a personal brand. I wanted to be able to connect with my audience and be myself.
It helps with incorporating the things that your audience wants because building a brand isn’t something that you control, it’s something that your audience controls. So while I’m building my audience, I’m able to understand what you want. Like ‘why are you watching these videos? What do you expect from these videos?’. I can incorporate your wants and needs into my brand because I didn’t really create this brand for myself but for you. So if you’re having problems with building your brand or if you’re just starting off from scratch, video is a great way, an easy way, to start building your brand.

04. Grow your authority
The fourth reason why I switched from blogging to vlogging is to grow my authority. I needed a way to showcase my skills and expertise. I really wanted to build social proof. So when I’m creating videos, I’m showcasing my knowledge and experience, and not only that, but I’m also showing you that I’m not a fraud.
I’m sure people are hesitant to buy things online because they’re afraid they might be getting scammed. So while creating videos you’re able to see my face and hear my voice. But not only that, you get to know that I actually do have experience with branding and creating videos. So you would feel more secure working with me.
If you’re needing to build authority and social proof online, then creating videos is a great way because your audience is able to see you, hear you, and know your personality. They get a taste of what it’s like to work with you.
05. Create resources for your clients
The last reason, the fifth reason, why I switched from blogging to creating YouTube videos is to have a library of resources for my clients. Before I created videos, I would get the same questions over and over again. So I created videos to answer those questions. Then if somebody asks the same questions, I can point to my library of videos.
For example, I have videos on lighting, camera composition, filming faster, and editing videos. So if my clients have a question about creating videos, then I can go and point them to my Youtube videos.
I also want to mention that watching videos is easier to follow than reading a blog post. Sometimes people get confused on blog tutorials and it’s easier to follow along with a video.
A while back, I was having a problem with something dealing with my website database. I read like five different blog posts and every blog post was different and had different steps. In the end, I had to follow along with a YouTube video. It was really easier to watch somebody go through the steps on video. So I prefer to create video tutorials for my clients so that they know that they can follow along with me and to know that they’re doing it right.
Conclusion
So those were the 5 reasons why I switched from blogging to making YouTube videos. The 5 reasons were for visibility, to create more content across my different platforms, to build my brand, to grow my authority, and to create resources for my clients.
