I saw a question about how to get a free logo. A lot of people (non-graphic designers) answered use Canva or go to Fiverr. Read More “Can’t afford a logo? Temporary ideas until you can get one.”
What is it?
An inspiration board or mood board is used to gather ‘inspiration’ for the design process. Designers use it to find the style for branding a client’s business. Read More “What’s an Inspiration Board? The pros and cons of letting the client create them.”
When I’m designing, the first thing I do is research. Here are a few color resources I use to get inspiration, find colors, and save color schemes.
Color resources I use to get inspiration
When I want to look up colors or various options for one different color I like to use color-hex.com and flatuicolorpicker.com. When you click on the link for the color you like in color-hex.com, it also shows you color palette options. Sometimes I use these 2 sites just to look up the hex value (#000000) for a color. Basic Color Meanings
Here are the meanings of a few basic colors. I’ve also created a resource section if you want to get more information on the meanings of these colors.
Red- Passion, Fire
Green – Nature, Money
Blue- Trustworthy, Loyal
Purple- Regal, Creative
Honestly, when you’re looking for a good font to use, most of them cost money. Here are font resources I use to get my fonts for free. Be careful because they have both free and paid options. Also, make sure you read about the licensing agreements. Some fonts are only free for personal use. Read More “Inside look: Font resources -The (mostly) free resources I use for my font needs”
When I first started off with graphic design, typography was my biggest weakness. I didn’t know how to choose fonts. I made the whole idea very complicated. My teacher even said that I thought about it too much. When I knew what he meant, I felt really dumb.
I’m not going to say typography is easy, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. Here is the not so complicated way to think about type. Read More “How to choose fonts for your brand: A not so complicated way to think about type”

Step 1: Know the company and target audience
The first step of my design process is to send out a client questionnaire. Before creating anything, designers have to know who and what they are creating for. Some companies are structured and strict, while others are more liberal and fluid. Also, when it comes to the target audience, different genders and age groups have different styles and tastes which lead to the next step. Read More “My Step by Step Process for Creating a Logo”
